Kualanamu International Airport (MES) opened in 2013, replacing the old Polonia International Airport. It is operated by PT Angkasa Pura II.
The airport served approximately 10 million passengers in 2019. It serves as a major gateway to North Sumatra and aims to boost tourism and economic growth in the region.
Future expansion plans include increasing the terminal capacity to accommodate growing passenger numbers.
Kualanamu International Airport has one integrated terminal building that handles both domestic and international flights. The terminal has a capacity of 8 million passengers per year.
It consists of the Main Terminal Building and a Railway Station. The Main Terminal Building has 5 levels: Departure Hall (3rd floor), Arrival Hall (1st floor), Mezzanine Floor (2nd floor), and a basement.
The terminal has 10 gates for domestic flights and 8 gates for international flights.
Short-term parking, long-term parking, and premium parking options are available. Parking rates start from IDR 6,000 per hour for cars. Daily rates range from IDR 50,000 to IDR 80,000. Pre-booking is not widely available.
