Fiumicino Airport, also known as Leonardo da Vinci Airport, opened in 1961. It is operated by Aeroporti di Roma S.p.A.
(ADR). In 2023, the airport handled approximately 40.5 million passengers.
Its IATA code is FCO. It is the busiest airport in Italy and a major hub for Alitalia (now ITA Airways) and Vueling.
Future expansion plans include further development of Terminal 3 and improved transport links.
Fiumicino Airport has three passenger terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 3, and Terminal 5. Terminal 1 handles domestic and Schengen flights.
Terminal 3 is the largest, serving both domestic, Schengen and non-Schengen international flights. Terminal 5 is primarily used for flights to the United States and Israel.
The airport has over 200 gates. In 2022, a new boarding area A was opened in Terminal 1, adding six new gates.
