Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) opened in 1999 and is operated by Shanghai Airport Authority. In 2019, it handled over 76 million passengers, making it one of the busiest airports in Asia.
Its IATA code is PVG. The airport serves as a major aviation hub for East Asia, with ongoing expansion plans to increase capacity.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport has two main terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, both serving domestic and international flights. Terminal 1 has 28 boarding gates and a capacity of 36 million passengers per year.
Terminal 2, which is slightly larger, has 42 boarding gates and can handle 44 million passengers annually. There is also a satellite terminal (S1 and S2) connected to the main terminals by an underground train.
Recent expansion projects include the opening of the satellite terminal in 2019, increasing the airport's overall capacity.
