Beijing Capital International Airport opened in 1958. It is operated by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
In 2019, it handled over 100 million passengers, making it one of the busiest airports in the world. Its IATA code is PEK.
The airport serves as a major hub for Air China and other airlines. A new airport, Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX), opened in 2019 to alleviate congestion at PEK.
Beijing Capital International Airport has three terminals. Terminal 1 is primarily for domestic flights.
Terminal 2 handles both domestic and international flights. Terminal 3, the largest, is divided into three sub-areas: Terminal 3-C for domestic flights, Terminal 3-E for international flights, and Terminal 3-D, formerly used for the Olympics, now handles some domestic flights.
Terminal 3 has 296 boarding gates. The total area of all terminals is 1.48 million square meters.
The airport has a design capacity of over 100 million passengers per year. Terminal 3 was expanded in 2008 in preparation for the Beijing Olympics.
Short-term and long-term parking are available. Rates vary by terminal and duration. Short-term parking: CNY 6 per 30 minutes for the first 2 hours, then CNY 5 per 30 minutes.
