Mehrabad International Airport was the primary airport of Tehran before the construction of Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA). It opened in 1938.
Currently, it mainly handles domestic flights and some international flights to neighboring countries. In 2016, the airport handled over 17 million passengers.
