The dry season spans from May to September, offering the most pleasant weather with average temperatures ranging from 22°C to 31°C. This period is ideal for outdoor activities like hiking Mount Rinjani and exploring the beaches. The wet season, from October to April, brings higher humidity and rainfall, with temperatures remaining consistent. Rainfall is heaviest from December to February. Surfing is still possible during the wet season, especially on the southern coast. For the best overall experience with sunshine and minimal rain, plan your visit between June and August.
Festivals and events worth timing your visit
Bau Nyale Festival takes place in February or March. This festival celebrates the sea worm harvest with traditional Sasak ceremonies and rituals, mainly held on the south coast beaches. The Perang Topat ritual occurs in November or December, a thanksgiving ceremony where locals throw rice cakes at each other to ensure a good harvest. The Islamic New Year, Muharram, in July or August is also observed with processions and cultural performances. While not a festival, the peak surfing season from April to October draws many visitors to Lombok's southern beaches.
What to pack
