April and May are hot and humid, with temperatures reaching 35Β°C. The monsoon arrives in June, bringing heavy rainfall until September. July and August see the heaviest downpours, making outdoor activities difficult and many beach shacks close. For the most pleasant weather and full access to tourist facilities, visit between November and February.
Festivals and events worth timing your visit
Goa Carnival takes place in February. It features colourful parades, floats, and street performances across Goa, including North Goa. Ganesh Chaturthi in August/September is celebrated with elaborate decorations and processions. Christmas in December is a major event, with churches decorated and festive celebrations throughout North Goa. Sunburn Festival, usually in late December, is a large electronic dance music festival held in Vagator, attracting many young tourists.
What to pack
Pack light cotton clothing for the peak season. Shorts, t-shirts, swimwear, and sundresses are ideal. Comfortable footwear is essential, such as sandals or flip-flops for the beaches. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. A light jacket or shawl is useful for cooler evenings. If visiting temples, dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees. Mosquito repellent is recommended, especially during the monsoon season.
