ποΈ Pali Through the Year
Pali experiences a hot and dry climate for most of the year. From March to June, expect scorching heat with temperatures ranging from 32Β°C to 45Β°C, making daytime exploration very difficult. The monsoon season arrives in late June or early July and lasts until September, bringing some relief from the heat with average temperatures between 28Β°C and 35Β°C, but also high humidity and potential for flooding. October and November see a pleasant transition with gradually cooling temperatures. The winter months, December to February, are the most comfortable, with daytime temperatures ranging from 22Β°C to 30Β°C and cooler nights dropping to 10Β°C to 15Β°C. The best time to visit Pali is from October to March when the weather is at its most agreeable.
Festivals and events worth timing your visit
Gangaur is celebrated in March or April with processions of idols of Gauri, the goddess of abundance. Teej, in July or August, is marked by women swinging and singing special songs. Diwali, the festival of lights, falls in October or November and is celebrated with lamps, fireworks, and sweets. Holi, the festival of colors, takes place in March, with public celebrations involving colored powder and water. Marwar Festival, although primarily celebrated in Jodhpur (a short drive from Pali), in September or October, showcases the region's folk music and dance.
What to pack
During the winter months (October to March), pack light woolens or shawls for the evenings along with comfortable cotton clothing for daytime. In the summer months (March to June), loose-fitting, light-colored cotton clothes are essential to protect yourself from the heat. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for exploring the city and nearby attractions. Remember to carry sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to shield yourself from the strong sun. If visiting temples, dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees. Do not forget to carry an umbrella or raincoat during the monsoon season.
Saving money
The cheapest time to visit Pali is generally during the monsoon season (July to September), when hotel rates can be 20-30% lower due to the less favorable weather. You can also find good deals immediately after Diwali, in late November and early December. Look for budget-friendly accommodations in the areas around the bus stand or near the railway station. Eating at local dhabas and street food stalls can significantly cut down on food costs. Booking accommodations and transportation 4-6 weeks in advance can often lead to better deals. Pali does not have its own airport. The nearest airport is Jodhpur (JDH).
