What to pack
For a trip to Tirupati, especially during the peak season (December to February), pack light cotton clothing for comfort. Since temple visits are the main activity, ensure you have modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, as you'll be doing a lot of walking. Carry an umbrella or raincoat if visiting during the monsoon season. Do not forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. Remember to carry sufficient Indian Rupees, as many local shops and vendors may not accept cards.
Saving money
The cheapest months to visit Tirupati are typically during the monsoon season (June to September), when hotel rates can be 20-30% lower. Flights from major Indian cities are also generally cheaper during this time. For budget travellers, consider staying in guesthouses or smaller hotels near the railway station or in Tiruchanoor, which offer more affordable options. Eating at local restaurants and street food stalls can significantly cut down on food costs. Booking accommodation and travel tickets 4-6 weeks in advance can also help secure better deals.
