The monsoon season begins in June and lasts until September, bringing heavy rainfall and increased humidity. October and November see pleasant weather with moderate temperatures, ranging from 25Β°C to 30Β°C. December to February is the winter season, with temperatures dropping to around 20Β°C to 25Β°C, making it the most comfortable time to visit. Festivals and events worth timing your visit
Brahmotsavam is the most significant festival, celebrated in September or October. It is a nine-day event with chariot processions and cultural performances. Vaikunta Ekadasi, in December or January, draws huge crowds as devotees seek entry through the Vaikunta Dwaram. Rama Navami, in March or April, celebrates the birth of Lord Rama with special prayers and decorations. Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, in March or April, is marked with traditional festivities and special temple rituals.
What to pack
For visits between December and February, pack light woolens or shawls for the cooler evenings. Cotton clothing is suitable for the daytime. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, as you will be doing a lot of walking. Carry an umbrella or raincoat during the monsoon season. Dress modestly when visiting the temple; traditional Indian attire is preferred. Avoid shorts, sleeveless tops, and revealing clothing. Remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.
Saving money
The cheapest time to visit Tirupati is generally during the monsoon season (June to September), when hotel rates can be 20-30% lower due to the rains. To save money, consider staying in guesthouses or budget hotels near the railway station or bus stand. Look for accommodations in Tiruchanoor or Tirupati town, rather than directly on the Tirumala hills, as it is cheaper. Booking accommodation and travel tickets 4-6 weeks in advance can also lead to significant savings. Free meals are often provided at the temple, which can help reduce food costs.
