The wait is finally over. Noida International Airport (IATA: DXN) at Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar, will be inaugurated on March 28, 2026 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This makes it Uttar Pradesh's 5th international airport and the third commercial airport serving the Delhi NCR region, after Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and Hindon Airport.
But if you're already looking up flights from DXN — hold on. Commercial operations won't begin on inauguration day. Here's everything travellers need to know.
When Do Flights Actually Start?
The inauguration is ceremonial. According to an official NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), Noida International Airport is not available for operations until April 16, 2026. This is similar to how Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) was inaugurated in October 2025 but started commercial flights only in December 2025.
Once operations begin, expect a phased rollout:
- Phase 1 (April–May 2026): Domestic flights on a limited daytime schedule
- Phase 2 (Mid-2026): Expanded domestic operations, 24-hour schedule
- Phase 3 (Second half of 2026): International flights to the UAE, Southeast Asia, and potentially Europe
Which Airlines Will Fly From Jewar?
Three airlines have confirmed operations from DXN:
- IndiGo (6E) — The launch airline. Expected domestic routes include Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Goa, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Kolkata.
- Akasa Air (QP) — Has also announced plans to set up India's first MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) facility at Jewar, signalling a long-term hub commitment.
- Air India Express (IX) — Expected to connect DXN to southern and western India.
Exact schedules and routes haven't been published yet. We'll update this post as soon as airlines open bookings — and you'll be able to search and compare all DXN flights right here on FareEagle.
About the Airport
Noida International Airport is India's largest greenfield airport project, spread across 5,000+ hectares. It's developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG — the same company that operates Zurich Airport in Switzerland.

How Far Is Jewar Airport From Delhi, Noida & Agra?
The airport's location on the Yamuna Expressway makes it accessible from multiple NCR cities, though it's significantly farther from central Delhi than IGI Airport.
| From | Distance | Drive Time (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Central Delhi | ~70 km | 75–90 minutes |
| Noida | ~40 km | 45–55 minutes |
| Greater Noida | ~25 km | 30–40 minutes |
| Faridabad | ~50 km | 60–75 minutes |
| Agra (Taj Mahal) | ~150 km | ~2 hours via Yamuna Expressway |
Getting There — Current & Future Options
At launch, road is your only option — via the Yamuna Expressway by private car, taxi, or pre-booked cab. The airport will also have intercity buses and app-based ride services.
Future connectivity planned (not yet operational):
- Greater Noida–Jewar Metro — From Noida Sector 148 metro station (Aqua Line). DPR done, construction yet to commence.
- Ghaziabad–Jewar RRTS — 71 km rapid rail, 11 stations. Planned completion by 2031.
- Jewar–Faridabad Expressway — 31 km, 6-lane. Under construction, expected by April 2027.
- Delhi–Varanasi High-Speed Rail — Will include a stop at Noida Airport.
- Palwal–Jewar–Khurja Railway — 61 km rail line with a station at the airport. Under construction.
How Does DXN Affect Delhi NCR Travel?
If you live in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, or eastern Delhi, Jewar Airport could save you a significant commute compared to IGI Airport, which is on the western side of Delhi. For travellers coming from Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, or western UP, DXN is a much more accessible airport than flying out of Delhi.
That said, DXN is not a replacement for IGI Airport — it's additional capacity. Delhi's main airport will continue to serve the majority of international and long-haul routes. Think of DXN as what Navi Mumbai airport is to Mumbai's main airport: a pressure valve for a congested system, and a closer option for people on that side of the city.
What Travellers Should Know Before Booking
- Don't confuse DXN with DEL. When booking flights, make sure you're selecting the right airport code. DXN is Noida/Jewar, DEL is the main Delhi IGI airport. They're 70+ km apart.
- Allow extra travel time. Until the metro and RRTS links are built, you're driving on the Yamuna Expressway. Factor in traffic, especially during weekday mornings.
- International flights won't be immediate. If you're flying abroad, you'll still use DEL for the first few months. International operations from DXN are expected in the second half of 2026.
- Check-in early. New airports often have teething issues — longer security queues, unfamiliar terminal layouts, limited F&B options at launch. Give yourself an extra 30 minutes.
