Other airports and the train
Tweed New Haven (HVN, ~7 miles) is closest but only has limited domestic flights (Avelo/Breeze). Hartford Bradley (BDL, ~57 miles), LaGuardia (~69 miles) and Newark (EWR, ~105 miles) are alternatives. Amtrak runs from Newark airport to New Haven Union Station, a short ride from West Haven.
Getting around
New Haven-area CT Transit buses and the nearby Metro-North and Shore Line East trains (from New Haven Union Station) connect West Haven to the region and New York. The campus area is compact.

Indian parents need a B1/B2 visitor visa. First-time interview waits are long and vary sharply by consulate, so city choice matters - you may book at ANY US consulate in India, not just your home city.

J-1 is for exchange programs (SEVIS $220), M-1 for vocational study. Spouses/children come on F-2/J-2/M-2 dependent visas. You can enter the US up to 30 days before your program start date.
