Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) opened in 1916 as a military airbase and later developed into a major international airport. It is operated by Royal Schiphol Group.
In 2023, the airport handled approximately 5.5 million passengers. Schiphol is a major European hub airport.
Expansion plans are underway to increase capacity.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has one main terminal building, split into three departure halls (1, 2, and 3). These halls then divide into piers (B, C, D, E, F, G, H, M).
Pier M is dedicated to low-cost airlines. The airport has approximately 165 gates/boarding positions.
In 2019, Schiphol handled 71.7 million passengers, exceeding its designed capacity. There are ongoing expansion projects, including the construction of a new pier and terminal, scheduled for completion in phases.
