Suvarnabhumi Airport opened in 2006 and is operated by Airports of Thailand (AOT). In 2019, it handled over 65 million passengers, making it one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia.
Its IATA code is BKK. The airport serves as a major hub for Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways, and other airlines.
Future expansion plans include the construction of a third runway.
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) has two main terminals. Terminal 1 primarily handles international flights.
Terminal 2 handles domestic flights. There are 128 gates across both terminals, with five concourses (A, B, C, D, E, F, G).
The airport has a total area of 3,240 hectares (8,000 acres). Its current capacity is approximately 45 million passengers per year.
A recent expansion project added the Satellite Terminal 1 (SAT-1), which opened in September 2023, adding 28 gates and increasing the airport's capacity by 15 million passengers annually.
Short-term parking is available in Buildings 2 and 3, connected to the terminal. Long-term parking is located further away, with shuttle service to the terminals. Short-term parking rates: 25 baht per hour for the first 2 hours, increasing to 50 baht per hour. Daily rates for long-term parking are approximately 140-250 baht. Pre-booking is not available.
