Narita International Airport (NRT) opened in 1978 and is operated by Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA). In 2019, it handled approximately 47 million international passengers and 6.8 million domestic passengers.
NRT serves as a major international gateway to Japan and a hub for Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways. There are ongoing plans to increase the airport's capacity to handle more flights and passengers.
Narita International Airport has three terminals. Terminal 1 handles international and domestic flights and is divided into the North Wing (14 gates), Central Building, and South Wing (11 gates).
Terminal 2 also handles international and domestic flights and has the Main Building (14 gates) and Satellite Building (8 gates), connected by a shuttle. Terminal 3 is a low-cost carrier (LCC) terminal with 5 gates for international flights and 5 gates for domestic flights.
Terminal 1 has a total floor area of 450,000 sq m, Terminal 2 has 390,000 sq m, and Terminal 3 has 66,000 sq m. The airport has a total annual capacity of approximately 75 million passengers.
