Munich Airport (MUC) opened in 1992, replacing the former Munich-Riem Airport. It is operated by Flughafen München GmbH.
In 2019, the airport handled approximately 47.9 million passengers. It serves as a major hub for Lufthansa and other Star Alliance members.
There are plans for a third runway, but its construction is currently delayed.
Munich Airport has two terminals. Terminal 1 is divided into five modules: A, B, C, D, and E.
Modules A-D are for Schengen flights, while Module E is for non-Schengen flights. Terminal 2 is primarily used by Lufthansa and Star Alliance partners.
It has 42 gates and a capacity of 25 million passengers per year. A satellite terminal was added to Terminal 2 in 2016, increasing the airport's overall capacity.
