Chennai International Airport was established in 1930 and is operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). In fiscal year 2023-24, the airport handled 22.5 million passengers.
Its IATA code is MAA. It is the fourth busiest airport in India and serves as a major gateway to South India.
Further expansion plans are underway to increase capacity.
Chennai International Airport has four terminals: T1 (primarily for cargo), T2 (Anna Terminal, international), T3 (Kamaraj Terminal, domestic), and T4 (domestic). T2 handles international operations with a capacity of 3 million passengers per year.
T3 handles domestic operations with a capacity of 17 million passengers per year. The airport has a total of 54 gates.
The new integrated terminal (Phase 1) opened in 2023, adding 136,295 sq m and increasing the airport's capacity by 23 million passengers. Phase 2 is under construction.
Short-term and long-term parking options are available. Rates for cars: INR 75 for the first 30 minutes, INR 140 for 1 hour, INR 55 for each additional hour up to 7 hours, and INR 835 for 24 hours. Pre-booking is not available.
