Tempelhof Airport was officially opened in 1923 and significantly expanded in the 1930s. It was one of Europe's three iconic pre-World War II airports, along with Croydon Airport in London and Paris–Le Bourget Airport.
The airport is famous for its role in the Berlin Airlift (1948–1949). Tempelhof Airport ceased operations in 2008 and is now a public park and event space.
